This cake was for a 50th Birthday party for Lynda. It was a marbled vanilla and chocolate cake with chocolate mousse..... the top layer had a hazelnut chocolate mousse. I was running behind on this cake.... but luckily my sister-in-law came by and jumped right in helping me ice, pipe, and finish off this cake. She did a FANTASTIC job!
This was a birthday cake for Brooke's mom. She sent a picture of what the top should look like, but I got to play around with the bottom design. I really like the changes in color. The bottom cake was chocolate with raspberry filling and the top was chocolate cake with a chocolate mousse filling.
This was a cake for a surprise party for a 25 year anniversary. I tried a new butter cake recipe and used an Swiss Meringue buttercream. This turned out well. I like this buttercream so much better. It has a light texture and rich taste without feeling greasy like a lot of the shortening based buttercream recipes.
I love the finished look of this cake. Same type of swirl design I did with the practice wedding cake, but the contrast in colors is nice. I have another black/white/red cake that I am doing for tomorrow.... more pictures to come.
The picture above was a work in progress. It shows the bottom layer of Oreo
with partially finished strawberry layer. I finished slicing strawberries
to cover the entire crust, the drizzled the strawberry puree on top of that.
This cake was fun to do. I started with an Oreo crust, topped with fresh sliced berries (see pic), then drizzled with fresh strawberry puree and topped with Oreo ice cream. I did these layers twice. Turned out yummy! You can't go wrong with chocolate and strawberries, right?
These cupcakes were fun. There were for a 9 year old girl's birthday party. I made chocolate with a vanilla cream filling, strawberry with a fruit-creme filling, and vanilla with a whipped lemon mousse filling.
This cake was for my sister-in-law's birthday. I tried a new filling that was a lemon buttercream and used the raspberry filling left over from the butterfly. It was yummy! Next time I will remember to use royal icing. The buttercream was beautiful, but as the cake warmed, the flowers became too soft and seemed to lose a little of their shape.
This cake was done for the Porcelli Family. It was my first time to use a buttercream fondant. I wish that I had more time to do better detail work, but it was a last minute request, so we had to roll with it. I must say, the flavor of the buttercream fondant is MUCH better than regular fondant!
